40 years of Norwegian Institute for Air Research
For celebrating of 40 years of foundation of NILU, anniversary symposium was held on 15 October in institute in Kjeller. Almost one houndred institute employees and guests collected in auditorium of new constructed part of building. Honourary guests of celebrations – Minister of the Environment of Kingdom of Norway Erik Solheim, chief of Norwegian Research Council Arvid Hallen and director of Norwegian Pollution Control Authority SFT Mrs. Ellen Hambro congratulated successes.
Anniversary lectures were delivered by Mrs. Elisabeth Walaas (State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) – “The high North and the way forward (The Government’s strategy for the Northern areas)”, prof. David Fowler (CEH ) – “Air pollution, climate change and ecosystems. Interaction at all scales”, dr Marcus Amann (IIASA) – “Mitigating air pollution and greenhouse gases. CO2-benefits and future trends” and prof. Jozef Pacyna (NILU) – “The role of science in the to policy making. NILU contribution to a global mercury ban.”.
